Teddies Galore
The Essex-based Teddies for Loving
Care (TLC) charity recently held
double celebrations at a number of
Essex hospital A&E units. The new
Patron and Vice-Patron are the
Deputy Grand Master Peter Lowndes
and Essex Provincial Grand Master
John Webb, respectively.
The second celebration was the
milestone of helping half a million
severely distressed children by
giving each a TLC Teddy.
Synagogue Holds Royal Arch Service
More than 300 members of the
Provincial Grand Chapter of Hampshire
and Isle of Wight attended a Service of
Thanksgiving at the Portsmouth
Synagogue earlier in the year. Guests
included Royal Arch members and
Christian ministers John Harvey, Malcolm
Lane, Tony Miller, Dr. Michael Morgan.
Rabbi David Katanka gave a sermon in
which he emphasised Portsmouth
Jewry’s long tradition of public service
and the many parallels between its
values and those of Freemasonry.
Scillies' Milestone
Freemasons on the Isles of Scilly
enjoyed an historic event when a new
Chapter – Scillonian No. 7790 – was
consecrated at Newquay, presided
over by Nicholas Barrington, Grand
Superintendent of Cornwall.
The Rev. Raymond Wood, in his
Oration, said it was the first
consecration this century of a Royal
Arch Chapter off the coast of Britain, but
masonry on the island began in 1755.
That year, Isaac Head became the first
and only Provincial Grand Master of
‘Scilly and other adjacent islands’ until his
death in 1779. Then Augustus Smith, the
Lessee, Governor and Lord Proprietor of
the islands, became Provincial Grand
Master of Cornwall in 1863.

the Winter Gardens, Blackpool to see
Peter John Hosker installed as
Provincial Grand master for West
Lancashire by Peter Lowndes, the
Deputy Grand Master. He was also
